MOISES RAMOS
BIOGRAPHY
Moises is a Puerto Rican artist who works in mixed media, prints, digital, and black & white photography. His first solo show, "De Pared de Colgantes," was held in 1993 at Domus Gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The same year, and later in 1996 his prints, were selected for the Biennial of Latin American & the Caribbean Engravings, also in P.R. Moises’ work has been published in several arts and literary magazines, including Rash Media Creative Zine, Radx Magazine, and High Shelf among others. Since 1994, Ramos has been working as an art educator. His volunteer work and community outreach projects with refugee students deemed him the recipient of the Memphis Wood Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009 and the Cultural Council of Jacksonville Art Educator of the Year Award in 2010.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is mostly about experimentation. I like to create artwork from found objects, objects that have no value or meaning anymore. I play with the human condition and how it is affected by time and emotions trying to convey that feeling in every piece, confronting the viewer with it. Metal, paper, or wood are my favorite elements to work with because they show the passing of time in my work conclusively.
The art philosophy I have is simple: If you have something to say, find a way to say it. This statement has driven me and my artist career throughout my life. Being an artist is a great responsibility. I create art because I feel I need to give visual forms to concepts and ideas derived from everyday situations. Also, I think it is a way to spark a conversation about topics we would not discuss otherwise. I create my artwork using different mediums because there is more than one way to tell people what is in your mind. Sometimes we need to expand your vocabulary to get our point across.
